Front Yard Makeover

In the past few months, if you have driven by our house, you may have wondered why we haven't kept up the front yard. Well, this past fall, I had a brilliant idea to redo the front yard. For me, the idea is brilliant, for my husband this just means more work! My motivation behind the makeover is to have our yard fenced in so P can have a place to play out in the front. Also, when we come home from work/school, our street can get busy, so I'd feel better if P can just get in the fenced area while I unload our stuff or groceries from the car. PLUS, since being on Pinterest, I have tons of ideas as to what I want to do.
I have been waiting and waiting for demo in our front yard, and it finally happened yesterday! Our friends own a construction company and offered (for a very sweet deal) to have one of their guys come in with his backhoe and rip everything out. I stood out on our front balcony grinning from ear to ear as I saw that backhoe rip out the bottle brush and all the other accumulated weeds that we had let overgrow in the past few months. It took them at least 2 hours to get everything and boy did they haul away a lot of dirt!
Now, the real work begins. We're trying to decide what we want to do.
I know that I want one square foot garden, a sitting area, a container fountain, and the perimeter fence.
I can't wait! I didn't take a picture of the yard before demo, sadly. I think it was because I was so sick of looking at it especially since we had let it go and weeds and other debris accumulated.

This when we first made over the front yard around May 2009.

Here's the yard a year later. The plants filled in nicely.
Here comes the back hoe!

Yeah, scoop all that out! Looks so effortless...

Now it's time to grade the soil. Our backs thank you!

Ahhh, clean slate!

  1. I thought your front yard looked nice! (Of course I haven't seen it in 3 years...) I am just amazed at how much energy you and RT have, I'm exhausted just thinking about yard work! I'm sure whatever you guys do, it'll turn out great.
